Most goblins will quickly reassess their priorities even if you poke them in the guts with a .22LR.
Some goblins will not reassess their priorities, even if you puree their innards with a .460 Magnum. They will not stop unless you get a central nervous system hit or break down their hips with a lucky shot.
Key point: Aim and keep pulling the trigger until they stop being a threat or you run out of ammo.
