Self driving car gizmos don't work worth a damn during snow

Yesterday's 2'' of snow turned local travel into a cluster flop. Our weekly trip to the veterinarian with Freak the cat took two-hours instead of one. Roads were slick and icy; subsequently all kinds of traffic chaos ensued.

Our VW Tiguan has all kinds of neat driver assist technology (cameras, lidar, lane assist, following distance, etc.) BUT IT GOES TOTALLY BLIND IN WINTER ROAD SLUSH. Seriously, it is laughable to have your smart-car start flashing all kinds of panic warnings like "AAAEEEE! I CAIN'T SEE SHIT! YOU'RE OWN YOUR OWN, SUCKER!"

The design geniuses gonna hafta figger out how to keep all those gizmos CLEAN.

  1. It makes me wonder and question if some of these Techies and designers ever, just once, drove a car in winter climate. Glad the round trip was safe and that Sir Freak is still hanging in there!

  2. Thanks David. Sir Freaks Alot is doing okay; he still owns the house and bosses me around. Honestly, I never expected him to hang in there for so long. Tough little bugger is what he is. He'll let us know when it time is up; he's not yet done trying to take over the world ;)

  3. Self driving car gizmos don't work. Period. And they never will work with anything remotely close to a safe level. Because they are NOT smart. Not capable of learning, predicting and adapting. That requires Artificial Intelligence. And once we create AI we will be doomed. It WILL destroy humanity. It must. Stephen Hawking....one of the smartest humans to EVER live said as much.
