What is the difference between a magazine and a clip?

.

Please click on over to The Gun Zone, read, and learn. Afterwards you will sound more convincing as a “gun expert” on the internet, TV, radio, and in print.

Once you have that issue mastered, come on back and we will discuss why budding media “gun experts” should not declare, “The Glock 19 is commonly carried as a SERVICE REVOLVER by police...” EDIT:  Glenn B may have found the source of that meme.

  1. It is irksome, isn't it? Oh well, I gotta go load up my Glock clips and then load my magazines that feed the internal fixed clip on my M1Garand.

The media has done their best in the last seven days to turn one of my favorite firearms, the Glock 19, into the devil itself. And if the G19 is the devil, then those extended magazines must be the son of Lucifer himself.

I will say, certainly not in defense of ANY of the media frenzy about how the gun is to blame, that one reason I love Glocks is because I'm an old revolver guy and Glock was the one to make an auto as foolproof (as you can, anyway) so that it is like a double action only revolver.

Many of my vintage cop friends who made the transition from the revolver days in the 80's and before to the Glock (and later Glock, Sig, HK and to a limited extend, Smith & Wesson).

So it's always kinda reminded me of a revolver, in some ways.

  2. I'm just being cranky; trying to avoid reading and hearing this stuff has been futile, it is even popping up on the financial pages. A few days away from the computer, radio, and TV may be in order...

Unlike you and many other bloggers, I never carried or owned any firearm as a professional. I hope I never come across as someone posing as an expert; I am an enthusiast, nothing more.

  3. I'm an enthuusiast as well, and wish the world were more full of guys like you and me and wild ed and right thinking people simply interested in living their own lives and helping their fellow man as best we can.

But you're right, the misinformation will feed into the frenzy and already I see those old days of the early 90's coming once again. Hopefully, sense will prevail on both the Democratic and Republican side, because the gun control folks on both sides supposedly don't have the votes to do any gun control right now.

But it's gonna be ugly and as you well know, anything can happen in politics.

  4. Greetings from Texas,
My big bugaboo has always been refering to "cartridges" as "bullits". Self loading rather than simi-auto is another. I have at least got the folks in ours writers group to stop putting silencers on revolvers.
(Yeap, I know there is a revolver silencers will work on. I've fired it. It ain't worth it!)

  5. Heh! If only there were silencers for the muzzles of the pundits... just a bit of noise attenuation... just for a short while...

The're called ball gags, but fitting them will get you in more trouble than it's worth.
