Despite the calendar saying that we are two-weeks into
spring, the sepia melancholy of winter hangs on. There is no spring yet for us. “Verdant” is
not a word anyone would use to describe our neighborhood landscapes, “Nuclear
waste spill aftermath” would be a better fit.
Some daffodils have broken through the crust but there are scant few
buds yet. Most evergreens suffered
through winter’s cold and snow with little visible damage, the exception being
Dwarf Alberta Spruce trees, most of which showed substantial winter burn.
Perhaps Gaia will be kinder to us after another couple of
weeks.

Since Gaia considers humans pollution, I would not count on future mercy.
ReplyDeleteGrace and peace.
Some Crocus popped up in our backyard last week and a few more did so this week. Imagine Gaia being so munificent to we human pollutants as to grace us with them. They sure are fleeting beauty.
ReplyDeleteYah, thats what mine looks like, though I did spot some crocus buds in their beds yesterday!
ReplyDeleteDown here in my part of Texas, we're barely getting enough rain to get by, and roadsides are green with bluebonnets everywhere. But the drought looms large still as so many of our reservoirs are so low, and it would take a year or so of steady rain to get us back near normal. And that doesn't look likely.
