Meet my Great Aunt, Ruth Owens, age 93

A sister to my Grandfather (my Dad’s Dad).

James Taylor is her Grandson; we traded some emails years ago but have since lost touch.

I remember Dad mentioning that Aunt Ruth took a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar each night before bed. She swore that it brought good health.  Then again, maybe I remember it wrong … there was some elixir that Dad mentioned.

I’ve only seen her in person maybe three times (that I remember); twice when I was real young and once while I was in High School (or Junior High). She used to sport really long black hair, if I recall correctly.  Her late husband, Roy Owens, survived Tuberculosis but lost a rib (or more) and maybe part of a lung. He spent some time in a TB Sanatorium.  Tough times back then.  Tough times fostered tough people.  I am the wimp of my lineage.

Click on the link below for an NPR feature about Aunt Ruth … there is an audio file there that you can click on to hear her interview.
