If it was in one of the ubiquitous pop machines of that era, it was my top choice. Dr. Pepper was an alternative, followed by Coke, Pepsi, and RC Cola if we were visiting MeMaw in Anderson Indiana.
A&W mug root beer at the drive-in restaurants was just plain heavenly AWESOME.

Kayo is unavailable nowadays. A major corporation (Coke maybe; I forget which one) owns the rights for the brand. IIRC, Oprah mentioned Kayo and other old-time soft drinks on one of her shows a couple or more decades ago which prompted a limited manufacturing run of the brands she mentioned.
Those old days were sweet, to say the least.
