Can you tell me how much my gun is worth?

.
In all honesty, asking a gun blogger the value of a specific firearm is probably not a good idea because there are far too many variables involved, the condition of the firearm being foremost.

The best thing you can use for estimating a gun’s value isn’t free, it’s S.P. Fjestad’s Blue Book of Gun Values (sorry, but my copy is out of date). If you don’t want to spend money to get an idea on the value of a specific gun, stop in at Gunbroker.com or GunsAmerica.com to see the settlement prices for similar guns. If your firearm is an antique, a book from Flayderman.com may be helpful (sorry, but my copy is out of date).

Best wishes,

  1. Greetings from Texas,
I have also had that question put to me but not on the blog. I often have folks in my 'weapons for writers' program want to describe a weapon (not just guns) based on their description and get me to put a value on it for them.
I try to explaine it's a "how long is a piece of rope" question. Some get it, some don't. The worse is trying to identify a weapon with 'family history'.
An eldery lady once had her son bring her grandfathers Civil War sword to the hotel hosting the Writers Conference. It was a 1913 era boarding cutless, last modle the U.S. Navy produced and issued. Even after showing them a picture of one in a book they still thought I was up to something.

  2. Hey Art, great comments. Thanks.

I have tried to be helpful, but it is awkward trying to put a price on something over the Internet; all we can offer is a guess that will be high, low, or just about right. If Dillinger owned it, a Remington Derringer can command huge dollars. If I own it, it is just another gun.

  3. I much prefer The Standard Catalog of Firearms over the blue book but then I am a sucker for books with pictures. Seriously, I just like the format a lot better.

    All the best,

  5. I have had a Hi=Standard o/u Derringer for many years with a wallet holster.

I understand it is now a crime to carry this combination. I can remove the gun from the wallet holster, put the grips back on, and
set the empty holster next to the gun in my collectible case. What a wonderful way for the politicians to spend our money. Boy, do I feel safer now !! (not). This just Frosts me!!
I would rather sell them (separately, of course). so we can pay double postage too.
What a wonderful Labor Day gift. That should help the big o's approval rating.
I really will sell them now. if I don't, every time I look at them I will be pissed off.
I truly am interested in selling both pieces.
    J.
