HEH! This high-tech contraption surprised the hell outta me by doing a very decent job! It maps out the house (separate maps for each floor; nope, it does not climb stairs but it can sense a stair to keep from taking a tumble) and it can run unattended on a schedule (we chose Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays). The main floor is where it is needed the most and that's where we use the scheduling feature and where we keep the charging dock which the bot finds on its own after finishing (or when it decides to recharge in order to be able to finish).
I lug the bot upstairs for it to service those rooms / hallways areas off-schedule.

The Roomba it is a great supplement to our regular use of the upright vacuum.

ReplyDeleteYou are prescient! iRobot has a LAWN mowing version marketed in Germany to see how well it works before marketing it in the USA. It uses transmitter-posts to mark the property lines instead of buried wires. A leaf sweeper may need to be bigger and more powerful but my guess is they are already working on the prototypes. I hope they hurry! We ain't getting any younger.

That's funny. I was totally joking. Guess I'm not surprised that a lawn mowing iRobot or Roomba is in the works. Tech...what can it do for us next?
