No, I don't just pull a loaded gun outta my pants for a shooting session.
All handguns that I shoot at the range are transported unloaded in a padded case inside my range bag.
I often also have the cased range gun(s) du jour inside a holster for extra protection against getting bashed around.
Whatever I am carrying for personal protection stays holstered / concealed / secured during my range sessions.
This portion of the 02/03/2020 session was a fun run with the .45 Colt Defender and 18-rounds of Federal Syntech 205-grain personal defense hollow points at a 12'' x 18'' splatter target set a 21-feet (7-yards; 6.4-meters).
The personal defense load and this .45 Colt Defender seem to get along just fine as far as function.
I need more practice time with it; the last time I had it to the range was 07/18/2019.

So far this year I have logged seven visits to the 5 Star Firearms shooting range. A total of 475-rounds were fired using seven different handguns. You betcha it all was good fun. I'll probably not make it back to the range until this flu season (and the government COVID-19 lockdown) ends.
Am I joining in on this latest apocalyptic mad panic rush to purchase more ammo? Nah, I have enough ammo cans on the ammo raft for me to fire over 1,000 rounds downrange during each of (hopefully) the many years yet to come during what's left of my lifetime. Shooting is a wholesome recreation. Self preservation is a human right.
As far as being a "prepper" I consider myself to be a minimalist --- I'm a lightweight. For quite a while I've been maintaining between a three-month to six-month supply of dry goods (i.e., I replenish when down to a three-month supply) and a six-week to twelve-week supply of food (i.e., I replenish when down to a six-week supply). We were pretty much fully stocked a couple of days before the panic set in soooooo I'm figuring that we are good for now and for the near foreseeable. In light of what has been going on during this latest governmental / societal cluster fuck I just may decide to increase those baseline amounts a tad provided the opportunities allow (fair weather or foul, I've always tried to avoid large crowds and long lines).
Both cars have full tanks of gas and there is nowhere we need to go ... for now.
Prayers for all y'all. Better days are coming, hopefully sooner than later.
