The Springfield Armory M6 Scout is an interesting superposed rifle / shotgun survival arm. The rifle barrel on mine is chambered for the .22 Long Rifle instead of the .22 Hornet. The lower barrel is the standard .410 bore shotgun. The M6 Scout has been out of production since March of 2008.
Based on the M6 Aircrew Survival Weapon, the Springfield Armory version has longer barrels (18.5’’) to make it legal for civilians. There is a flip-top cover on the gunstock where both .22 and .410 cartridges are stored.
The optional lockable plastic carrying case is designed to carry the disassembled M6 along with some ammunition. I have crammed a few extra items in; a cleaning kit, spray oil, and storm-proof matches. It conveniently stows in the trunk of a car or cuddy of a boat. The case IS NOT waterproof. A disassembled M6 Scout readily fits into a camper’s bedroll or a hiker's backpack.

Where exactly did you get such a fine specimen? And if you don't mind me asking, what was the price?
ReplyDeleteIt has been quite a while since I bought it ... several years ago, so my memory may be foggy. I believe I bought it from the Smoke 'N Gun in Waukegan; probably somewhere between $250 - $400 for the gun, case, and ammo. I'd have to dig through my files to know for sure.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!
Zack
My M6 served me well for 6 years of animal control duties; dealing with countless injured animals including deer at various ranges. It is amazingly accurate, rugged, and portable. I'd heard that they're not making them anymore, which is too bad.
ReplyDeleteWould you be interested in selling it?

I'm selling two M6 Scouts on Gunbroker, check my auctions at http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/SellerAuctions.aspx?User=51770
ReplyDeleteBoth are 22LR over 410 & parkerized. If you're reading this after Aug 25th, 2011 they're both sold.
Wow! I work on a variety of military based tv shows and bought myself one of these M6's at a gun show a few years back. It's an original in the .22 Hornet configuration. Wrapped it in para-cord and made a little survival kit with fish-hooks, line, weights - packed into an empty shot-shell and capped off. Mine was actually featured on Mail Call and fired by R. Lee Ermey! I wish I found you guys back when I worked on that show! I will be marking this site down on my "favorites" for future reference. Great site w/ some real stand-up comments. Keep it up!

ReplyDeleteHi,I have a Stainless M6 for sale.It is .22LR over 410.Post your email and I will respond. No lowball offers.Looking to get going price.
ReplyDeleteI bought my M6 Scout rifle (.22/.410) new, about 15 years ago for the meager price of $149.00 + tax. If I had known they were going for the prices they are now I would have bought every one in the gun shop at the time! I would have more than quadrupled my money! I have gotten to where I can consistently hit a water filled soda can at 50 yards. At 25 yards I can shoot dime sized groups with no problem. I have since wrapped paracord around the barrels (not too tightly though) for a forearm and have painted it in a camo pattern using the same indestructable paint that the military uses to paint tanks and HUMVEES. I did have the trigger sear break but Springfield Armory fixed that at no charge. It is my constant backpacking/truck gun and I will never get rid of it.

The 22 LR version is a bit older but is still in good condition. It also has a scope mount. ( It took me two years to find it!!!) It has been shot a lot but is still accurate as the first shot. $550 Or Best Offer

ReplyDeleteI have recently acquired an M6 Scout. It has 22 LR and a 410 under. My problem is that when I go to buy 410 shells there are multiple length for the 410 Cartridges. Can you please tell me which one is the correct one for this gun.
ReplyDeleteI am also curious why it says Springfield Armory on one side and Check Republic on the other.
Any ideas ??
Hey there Jim B
ReplyDeleteAs far as I remember, either the 2.5'' or the 3'' .410 loads will work in the M6
The last time that I recall Springfield Armory selling the M6 Scout, they had them made overseas in the Czech Republic.
Take care,
Zack
