~ 20-months ago was the last time that I had this revolver @ the range.
I was long overdue for a refresher.
Target#1
15-Feet (5-yards; 4.57-meters)
50-rounds Federal Nyclad +P 158 grain semi-wadcutters
(recoil impulse was a tad ouchie)
(a heavy bullet chased by a heavy powder charge = exciting things at both ends of the gun)
---------------
Target#2
Again at 15-Feet (5-yards; 4.57-meters)
50-rounds Federal 130-grain red box ball
----------------------
Target#3
21-Feet (7-yards; 6.40-meters)
50-rounds Federal 130-grain red box ball
-----------
Over 150-rounds total were fired during this range session (three full 50-round boxes plus some loose cartridges that I had laying around, but I forget exactly how many of those there were).
After each cylinder of live ammo I stayed "on-target" and dry-fired on the empties at least twice. Sometimes I'd replace one or two spent cartridges with live ammo to judge and attenuate any "flinch factor."
Anyhoo, I gots myself lots of quality trigger-time during this session. Dunno if it was trigger-finger-fatigue or just bad technique / lack of practice that caused me to short-stroke the trigger during some of the fast-shooting strings.
I also did plenty of practice with speed-loaders, speed-strips, and the good old fashioned method of dropping cartridges into the cylinder via onesies and twosies.
(Before this range trip I should have spent a week doing dry-fire drills in the cold-range area of my basement. Shoulda coulda woulda ...)
This much needed practice session was darn good fun.
Thank you 5 Star Firearms for the great shooting range and all of the other gunslinging goodness that you provide!
