Today is the anniversary of the JFK assassination.
I was 11-years old back then, playing hooky from school by feigning a fever (I put a folded handkerchief on a lightbulb to get it good and hot, held it to my forehead for a couple of minutes then went into my act; "Mom, I feel sick." She put her hand on my forehead and exclaimed "Goodness! You're running a fever! Go back to bed!" Ya see, my 5th-graded teacher had told the entire class that anyone who did not complete the assignment would receive a failing grade; I needed an angle to buy some time and this was it. Anyhoo, once it was too late in the day for me to go to school I proclaimed that I was feeling better, turned on the TV to watch Bozo the Clown and was swamped by the TV coverage of the Kennedy assassination.
(IIRC, I received a D (barely passing) grade on the assignment.)
School was totally into the historic aspect of the assassination. I tell ya, portable TV sets were brought into almost all of the classrooms in the grade school.
So, who killed JFK? I dunno. IMHO, Lee Harvey Oswald was a loose cannon and the security for politicians back then just plain sucked. Then again, events over the years since the JFK assassination add sinew to possibilities.
Was it a high level government conspiracy? Was Oswald a lone gunman or were there others? If so, were the other shooters part of a conspiracy or just random weirdos who all took advantage of the lack of security back in those days? My guess it that we will never know for certain.
As time goes on fewer people will care.

Yeah, whoa, I don't think we'll ever know what really happened. If you're not a fan of the XFiles, find the episode Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man and watch it. He's the guy in charge of all the conspiracies and JFK is explained, aliens, the moon landing (faked of course) and how he fixed the Miracle on Ice win for the U.S. You'll get some good laughs from it.

I vaguely remember that episode. I was a rabid fan of the Xfiles.
DeleteIt's a virtual certainty that JFK's death was the result of a conspiracy. He had made too many enemies. If Oswald was the only one involved there would have been no reason for Ruby to kill him. And Ruby had plenty of contacts in the underworld...and the underworld is hand in hand with the government spooks.
ReplyDeleteThere certainly are plenty of reasons to doubt the government on this. I have my doubts. Sad to say that many folks do believe the government is vile enough to pull it off.
DeleteIt does not matter if someone today could verifiably come forward and say "I am one of the shooters of JFK." No one would care.
