GLEEP! Another empty box.
It has been great fun.
Above is all of the .38 Special target ammo that I have left.
It wouldn't take many range sessions to burn through all of it.
Maybe I can stretch it out over another couple of years.
Only 350-rounds of the red box 130-grain ball.
Only 150-rounds of white box 130-grain ball.
Whazza difference between the two?
The red box 130-grain loads are fairly hot and (IMHO) they have a felt recoil nearly identical to the rare 125-grain +P Nyclads.
The white box 130-grain loads are milder have a felt recoil nearly identical to the rare 125-grain NON +P Nyclads (the box of 130-grain Winchester ball is pretty close to the same as the white box Federal ball).
Each are (IMHO) perfect surrogate loads; practice with the ball and carry the hollow points for defense. Federal no longer makes the Nyclad loads. I practice with them sparingly. What I have in stock is the last that I will ever have. I was taught to "practice with the loads that you carry." For a full range session I start with a full cylinder (or two) of Nyclads and then use the ball ammo as surrogates for the balance of my range time.
Dunno what the future may hold. Maybe I'll get more range fodder when it becomes available and maybe I'll just finish my shooting days with what I have on hand.

Hey Zach!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't find an email address to send a message to, so I'm reacting here. I work at a custom leather holster company and we'd love you to take a look at our holsters and if you decide you like them, it would be amazing if you mentioned our offer somewhere on your blog.
If you're interested, please, let me know at "feedback@craftholsters.com" (my work mail).
Regards, Al
Hey there Bigus, thanks for the tip!
ReplyDeleteHey there Al @ Craft Holsters. Thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteThe public email address became a YUGE problem for me so I cut it off years ago.
Truth be told, I have visited your website very often. I'm "all leathered up" with holsters that I use regularly, holsters that I DON'T regret buying but rarely use, and holsters that didn't work out as well as I had hoped.
I don't review any holster / rig / component that I did not purchase at full retail price. HOWEVER, there is one rig that you have that I would purchase in a heartbeat if I was young enough to expect my heart to keep beating until the next sunrise. Lemme see if I can find enough creative braincells left in my aged skull to put my thoughts about it into blog post.
Take care
Zack
