Kinda burned out on blogging

I've been blogging here and at other places since 2007. Before the internet came along I was online visiting BBS sites from the days of dialup 300-baud modems. Then CompuServe came along ...

Many folks had already abandoned blogging and went on to Twitter at around the same time I finally started blogging.  Frankly, I'm amazed that active blogs still exist.

Twitter never attracted me; eventually I signed on to Elon's X for a while, found it to be very nice but I canceled my account in short order; blogging was (and still is) pretty much my "comfort zone."

Anyhoo, I'm now old, gray, very tired, and very busy taking care of personal matters.

  1. We came from an era of story-tellers. A good story takes context and a progression through time. There is subtly and sub-plots, personalities and styles. A story that you can sink your teeth into cannot be told in 144 words.

Time moved on. Now it is about "reactions". There is no dawning-of-enlightenment as nuance becomes apparent. It is all wham-bam-ma'am.

The right kind of busy is good. Reaction without thought and awareness is a passing fad. Write when you have time and the mood strikes you. If I am on the green side of the sod, I will read it.

  3. I too came from the world of the dial up BBS. We used Decwriter LA120 terminals for administering the old Northern Telecom Sl-1 PBX's. I would plug the RS-232 cable into our remote-in 300B modem and use it to dial out. The New Haven BBS was my favorite. There were always people on it hanging around even in the middle of the day. Techno nerds like myself I guess.

  4. Heh! Man I felt bad about tossing out boxes of 300, 1200, and 9600 baud modems and cables. The printer cables were thick enough to pull a Pontiac out of a ditch. I'm sure somewhere there is a museum full of what was once state of the art.

Great to hear from ya Glypto. Thanks for stopping in.

  7. I feel ya. Started Blogging in 2006. Sometimes it gets to feeling like a chore to come up with something. CederQ has saved my ass many times from not having anything to post.
