Again with the long boot time for my MacBook Pro OS X Mountain Lion

It’s all pretty much the same as I reported the last time (near two months ago); the fix was to reinstall OS X, only this time I did it via the recovery screen.  It has been suggested by many that my 16-month-old hard drive is failing, but it continues to pass all the tests that I have available.  There has been no sudden program crashes or data loss; the only symptom is the boot time.  I’m learning more about OS X and my MacBook Pro than I ever wanted to.

The last time, I waited until the time between the start-chime and the log-on screen degraded to over 8.5 minutes; this time I restored the OS when the boot time grew (suddenly) to 3.5 minutes.

This is a “vanilla” MacBook Pro with righteous OS and software updates and has no exotic software installed.  Further, I don’t drop into Unix to play around with things.  I suppose that if the drive doesn’t fail before then, I’ll have it replaced and the rest of the box tested when the battery needs to be replaced by an authorized tech.  I don’t regret buying the MacBook Pro, but only because I have my wife’s new Windows 8 HP system to show me how bad things can really be.  After 30-years of messing with computers, there is little fun left in it for me.

Unemployment is up to 9.5% in the most corrupt state in the USA

Surprisingly there is sparse news coverage.  Some details are HERE and HERE

Democrats control The Illinois House, The Illinois Senate, and the Governor’s Office, and apparently influence most of the media outlets.  Let’s give credit where credit is due.  Democrats OWN the failure of the Illinois economy.

It is presently against the law to live as my Mom and Dad did

With all of the vermin infested ghetto dwellings in our sprawling urban areas, it is beyond logic that government chose to go after the country life of someone who may well be The Last American Man.

The man is not “living poor.”  The man is living a vanishing way of life called self-sufficiency.

Tom Watson of Irish Guard Firearms passed away

Sad news.  Tom was a friend to all.

I knew Tom via the online forums.  Countless others in the Dallas, Texas area knew him personally via his firearms business.

He will be missed, but not forgotten.

Hang a special toast in the air for Tom this St. Patrick’s Day.

All the man axed for was coffee and donuts

Man goes chopping at Dunkin’ Donuts.  Kudos to the New Britain, Connecticut cops for not using the ballistic perforation method to subdue this miscreant.

Advice for GOP principal curmudgeon, Senator John McCain

“Wacko birds?”  Seriously?

Preemptive Arrest for Future Crime

Is this science fiction or a not-so-distant-future fact?  Unbelievably, your trusted government is working on it.   It’s cool as long as they come for your weird old neighbor, but not so cool when they come for you.

Choose carefully for whom you vote.  Politicians of both major parties have some bizarre, elitist ideas on how to govern the unwashed masses.

Every Child Left Behind in little Michael Bloomberg’s New York City

Les Miserables.  The legacy of the nation’s biggest soda jerk Mayor is that 80% of NYC’s High School Graduates cannot read.  What is even sadder is the only 37% of Bloomberg’s black and Hispanic students even graduate High School; that is the lowest rate in the nation.

Great job, Napoleon!

Illinois Gun Owners’ Frustration

We complied with every intent and letter of Illinois gun-law for our long lives and the politicians forever want more from the honest citizens to compensate for the state’s impotence against criminals.

Below is a clip I took from an email from a friend.

“Armed, law-abiding citizens in 49 states are first responders. Unarmed, law-abiding Illinois citizens are first victims.”

“All gun store (FFL) sales entail NICS background checks. Over 80% of gun show sales are by FFLs and they run background checks before transferring a firearm. You cannot "buy a gun over the Internet" without going through an FFL and a background check.”

“Illinois FOID law effectively imposes universal background checks for all legal firearm sales. The rules on the back of the card are clear. A private seller can only transfer a gun to another person with a FOID card (i.e. recipient is certified by Illinois State Police to be a legal gun buyer/owner). And you have to keep a record of the sale for ten years. There is no "gun show loophole" in Illinois because a FOID card is the background check. That said, how effective are "universal background checks" in reducing Chicago's gun violence (not to mention the "assault weapons ban" in Cook County)?”
