That was a fun, educational, and exciting period of time.
The Vic-20 and Commodore-64.
The Texas Instruments 994A.
The IBM PC and clones.
The early days of Apple.
The progression of 300-baud, 1200-baud, 2400-baud, and 9600-baud modems.
The home based Computer Bulletin Boards.
Those were the good old days.
The past several months I have been cleaning out my accumulation of tech-crap. Bags and boxes of the hardware, software, documentation, and disks went to the recycling / scrap / junk-yards. I'm too old and too busy to bother trying to sell any of it as collectibles or do any "hobbying" with any of it.

I still have myTimex Sinclair 1000 that was given to me because the membrane keyboard was shot. I wired in a mechanical keyboard that worked great. I spent hours using it and writing and debugging my own programs. My wife would go to bed and I would say "5 more minutes!" Next time I looked at the clock it was 04:30 and approaching work wake up time. I haven't powered it up in decades, but can't seem to part with it.
ReplyDeleteI too spent many hours on a spare DEC LA120 terminal/printer on a 300 baud modem connected to the New Haven BBS live chatting with other users. It was fascinating stuff.
I appreciate that you are posting more frequently. Thanks!
