My Daughter, Granddaughter, wife and I met for Father's Day at a rather nice non-franchise Italian restaurant. The co-owner was greeting each group of customers at the door and informing them that THE TELEPHONE LINES ARE DEAD AND THAT THE CREDIT CARD SYSTEM CANNOT WORK. The options were for customers to pay with cash OR they could leave their credit card info and the owners would process payments when the phone lines returned to service OR they could leave. Some folks turned away while others stayed. We stayed; this restaurant is where my wife and I usually eat on Sunday evenings and the owners and staff seem to appreciate that we always pay the bill and gratuity in cash. Independent restaurants are a dying breed and each cash transaction gives them a bit more profit than a credit card transaction does.
Cash isn't ALWAYS king. Once upon a time ago we were driving down to Florida and we stopped for gas at a prepay station. I went in and was told the credit card system was DEAD and that the station was not equipped to process cash transactions. It was a good thing that we still had around 1/3rd of a tank of gas left to get us down the interstate to another station.
Back in the early 1960's many of my schoolteachers were predicting that cash would soon vanish from our society. Well, it didn't vanish "soon" but I believe it will someday happen.
I'm sick of the McDonalds drive-through robot-voice asking me "WILL YOU BE PAYING WITH YOUR APP TODAY?" I once was stuck for 15-minutes behind a schmuck trying to pay by waving his Apple Watch at the drive through window.
Time marches on.

I agree with you, however various government agencies, the Fed, the UN and the world bank all want to go digital so they can control and tax us more easily! Don’t know what us residents of fly over country will do. Maybe we will have to go to trade fairs and barter for some local purchases like farm stands, local wood cutters, etc!,
